Volunteer Training and Certification

Spirit Ride Therapeutic Riding Center is looking for anyone interested in becoming a certified Spirit Ride Therapeutic Riding Volunteer. Training will be held at the Banner Elk facility on Saturday, August 25th, from 9 am to Noon. Absolutely no experience with horses is required.

This is a two-part course.
Level 1 (9-10:15am) will cover general safety guidelines while interacting with horses, as well as how to communicate effectively with our equine partners. A general overview of the Spirit Ride philosophy and therapeutic methods/benefits will be discussed as well. The cost for this course alone is $10.

Level 2 (10:30-Noon) is for those who would like to become certified Equine Therapy Volunteers. Participants will explore more in-depth methods of equine communication as well as barn management, an overview of exceptionalities, and specific ‘Therapy Team’ roles. After successfully completing the BOTH sections of the two-part course, participants will receive a certificate and a Spirit Ride T-Shirt. The cost for this course alone is $10 (NOTE: Those interested in becoming SRTC Volunteers must take both Level 1&2.)

Here are some last minute items for you to consider before leaving the house.

1.  Wear close-toed shoes and clothing that you don’t mind getting a little dirty.  We will be interacting with animals and walking on trails.
