Giving Tuesday Post #2:
Let the countdown begin! We are just days away from the biggest opportunity that non-profits have to raise funds online: #GivingTuesday.
Automatically Double your Donation: Beginning at 8 AM on Tuesday, November 28th, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will be matching funds for 501(c)3 charitable organizations that are fundraising via Facebook. The Gates Foundation has promised to match up to $2 million in donations that are made on Facebook to eligible nonprofits.
No Transaction Fee: In addition, Facebook has agreed to waive the standard 5% fee on all donations via Facebook between 12 AM EST and 11:59 PM EST on November 28th.
The best chance we have of utilizing the matching fund opportunity is to give via Facebook between 8 -8:30 AM EST on the morning of Giving Tuesday. Last year, in the Beta Trial of the Gates Foundation Facebook Match Program, the $2 million dollar maximum was reached within two and a half hours. It is anticipated that the matching funds will run out much more quickly this year.
What this means: If you plan to give to an organization that is near and dear to your heart – give through that organization’s Facebook page between 8 and 8:30 AM EST on Tuesday, November 28th.

Giving Tuesday Post #1:
#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. It gives charitable organizations – big and small – opportunities that would not otherwise be possible. At Spirit Ride Therapeutic Riding Center, we can vouch for the impact that Giving Tuesday has had on our mission.
In the beginning, our riders and their families had to walk down a long path and up several steps to use the only bathroom on site which was located in our home. Through Giving Tuesday, our supporters raised enough money to build a wheelchair accessible restroom located in the barn of the SRTC campus. As we grew, we needed a place to train volunteers and hold classes for field trips…that space became a reality through the generous spirit of Giving Tuesday 2016.
This year, we ask that you help us to never say no to a rider and their family. Spirit Ride Therapeutic Center operates on 100% volunteer power and never charges one penny…ever. For many of our families, Therapeutic Riding at SRTC is the only service that their child receives due to difficulties with insurance. It takes an entire community dedicated to giving our riders the future that they deserve. YOU are an important part of that community. Without people like you, we would not be able to offer the high-quality therapeutic riding experience that our families have grown to depend on.
It costs approximately $85 per week to provide these services for each Spirit Rider. Most of our riders attend Spring, Summer and Fall sessions – which means that we must raise $1500 per child, per year. This year we averaged 23 riders per week. Being a part of all of those ‘magical moments’ makes us more determined than ever to do whatever it takes to continue to offer this opportunity at no cost to the families. But we can’t do it alone.
